Hello,
my friend has been using an aggressive tactic against which I struggel very much. The tactic itself is very simple: He just storms with his pawn infront of his rook right into my bishop at the start of game. The problem is that I don't have enough time to construct my gakoi. I tried short version of the Yagura Gakoi, prioritising the point where the rook would attack, but I simply don't have enough time.
Because of that, I wanted to ask if anyone has any tips how to defend against such aggressive play. I'd be grateful for any help!
Thank you for reading!
A difficult tactic to defend
Is he simply storming his pawns ahead without building other pieces? If that’s the case, you can attack those pawns and win them easily and try heading for a promotion of a rook or bishop (unless he has taken your bishop in the early stages of the game).
Advancing the rook pawn to attack the silver head is a basic pattern of static rook opening. You should watch Hidetchi's videos on double wing attack. Also, this may be useful if he is advancing his silver: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdP8o12NCig
Notice that in Shogi you have to attack yourself while defending. It is a game about who is able to penetrate the opponent's lines and reach his king before. There is no way to prevent penetration for very long.

Thank you. I have thought of something: I move the pawn on front the left silver general and after that follow up with my knight. That way I can beat his pesky pawn! If he beats my knight I simply move my golden general next to my bishop. Then I have savely fended off the rook!
It only works if I am Sente though. If I'm Gote I must loose my bishop to defend... which is not optimal...

Also thank you for your help.
The video is very interesting. I now understand why the Yagura gakoi is the way it is! I've just building because it had worked for me...
However, we both aren't as sophisticated and knowledgable in our shogi tactics, that this case of complex skirmish hasn't yet occured. But thank you very much anyways!
