Playing rated games / getting a rating

Hi - I'm new on here, I'm trying to figure out how to get a proper rating.
When I go to 'create game' the option to play a Rated Game is greyed out. I presume this is because I don't have a proper rating yet, but how can I make my rating solid if I can't start rated games?
I'm also confused by the 'lobby' and finding games to play. I can see that there are available games showing in a kind of rating/time settings grid, but there don't ever seem to be more than one or two games up there. Are they the only people waiting to play at the moment? There are various lists below, but I can't figure out if one of them is for 'available games'. I feel like it would be clearer for me to look for them in that format, but maybe the lists are just for who is online / games already playing etc?

Sorry if these are very obvious things, but there doesn't seem to be a quick help section or guide. For me at least it is confusing.

'Rated' is greyed out, if you select Byoyomi, because games with Byoyomi are always unrated at the moment. Just set Byoyomi to 0 and you can play rated games. Byoyomi is a very new feature, so I expect the interface to get clearer.

As I understand it the games shown in the lobby are the only 'available games', because there are only a few dozen people online at every moment and so only about 0-2 people are actively waiting for oppenents and it takes some time to find a opponent. If you dont see any game you want to join, just create a new game. According to the Lishogi blog, Lishogi is only a few month old, so hopefully the community will grow and we will have more players to play against.

It seems that games with byoyomi + increment are unrated. Set one of the two options to 0 (0 increment if you prefer byoyomi) and the "Rated" button will work again.
