I created a team to let you informed about upcoming pychess tournaments.
You can find the team link in my profile.

Shogi variant tournaments
Pychess complements lishogi very well, I love both sites. Mini variants are great pathway to learn the full shogi. Also on pychess and lishogi, you can change the pieces on settings. That helps for non Japanese people to read the pieces.
Japanese young people learn shogi via Dobutsu (animal shogi), then Gorogoro, then full shogi. Dōbutsu shōgi (どうぶつしょうぎ, "animal chess") was invented by women's professional shogi player Madoka Kitao (北尾 まどか, Kitao Madoka),
Here is the summary of the mini variants available:
Minishogi - Shogi on a 5x5 board
Kyoto Shogi - 5x5 Shogi where pieces flip to a different piece each move
Dobutsu - Shogi on a 3x4 board, designed to introduce children to Shogi
Gorogoro Shogi on a 5x6 board
These are real fun shogi mini variants. Kyoto shogi is an especially genius mini variant. I highly recommend the pychess site!
I wish there was Chu Shogi
Chu shogi would be too much for online games.
Minishogi would be very nice for this site once it is ready for variants.
www.pychess.org/variants/kyotoshogi Kytoshogi is fun too.
FYI, Tori Shogi is now available too! 🐦🐦
