Why do people make 14 week long correspondence games? what is the point?

This one user is playing like, 100+ games at the same time. Why? its not going to help their game skills, and really, the potential for cheating is ever the higher. Don't people find this nonsense unfun? Who wants to deal with someone who makes a move every week? And are they just doing it to raise their ratings?

Also, these shogi CAPTCHA puzzes are easy.

“14 week long correspondence”

14 days per move is the longest possible correspondence game.

“Why do people make 14 week long correspondence games? what is the point?”

Correspondence does help in development in understanding of shogi. Also using an opening book can enhance openings knowledge and theory which can be extremely useful.

“This one user is playing like, 100+ games at the same time.”

I only know of one user that plays 100+ games on lishogi at the same time ( @abunickabhi ) and he isn’t even in the top 10 highest rated correspondence players ( lishogi.org/player/top/10/correspondence ). So he definitely isn’t cheating.

“Potential of cheating is higher”

If you find anyone cheat you could use the lishogi report form lishogi.org/report

“Who wants to deal with someone who makes a move every week? And are they just doing it to raise their ratings?”

Usually the people who play 100+ correspondence games play 100+ moves everyday. So if your opponent is slow in your game you must understand that this is how correspondence games works. If they are doing this just for raising their rating, you could use the report form lishogi.org/report . Correspondence gives the chance to think for as much time as you want (almost) and can be very useful in discovering new tactics.

“And are they just doing it to raise their ratings?”

Again if that’s ever the case you have the report form ( lishogi.org/report ). Though I haven’t seen anyone just playing correspondence to raise their rating.

“Also, these shogi CAPTCHA puzzes are easy.”

They are meant to be user friendly and easy. Just to prevent bots (oh nvm 😉) from posting in forums (by bots it means not manually typed by a user, as in this case, but auto typed by a robot).

If you personally don’t prefer correspondence, no one is forcing you to play.

Whether or not you want to quit the game, it’s up to you. But it’s how correspondence works.
