indeed, i knew this variant yesterday, and i am obssesed with it now!
it seems like a comprehensive war game where you just play like a commander and win the war!
my favorite large shogi game is ko shogi. My favorite chess like game is capablanca chess. i wanna try dai shogi or wa shogi someday, along with infinite chess, maybe with some extra pieces too. i also played courier chess on chess.com a few times, and their "grand chess" variant. overall, i like large games.
