Yonenaga Style Rapid Attack Yagura is a strategy generally played as Gote in response to Sente's Yagura opening generally indicated by the move S77. It's a very fun strategy to play if you enjoy attacking.1P-762P-843S-684P-855S-77When we see S77 we can be confident our opponent is aiming to build a Yagura castle and can start setting up our Yonenaga style attack.6P-347G-788S-629P-26While the exact move order is not super important, there are a few moves that we need to respond to precisely. When the opponent plays P26, we need to respond with either S32 or S42 so that we can meet P25 with S33 to defend the 24 square.10S-4211P-2512S-3313S-4814G-3215G-5816G-5217P-5618P-5419P-3620K-4121P-66Once we see P66, we know we will be the aggressor and the opponent will be the defender this game. If this pawn does not get pushed, its likely our opponent is also aiming for a rapid attack and we'll have to decide whether we want to confront the attack directly or to try and defend it. Yonenaga Style refers specifically to an attack vs a full yagura with a pawn pushed to 66.22P-7423G58-6724N-7325B-79B79 is another move that requires a precise response in order to set up our attack. Our setup for launching the attack involves pushing our pawn to 64 and bringing our silver up to 63. If we don't push P64 when we see B79, Sente can play B46 and prevent P64.26P-6427K-6928S-63This is the basic shape of Yonenaga Style Rapid Attack Yagura. Our plan is to bring our left silver to 44 and launch an all out assault on Sente's castle with P55, P65, P86, etc. We'll be attacking with a Rook, Bishop, Knight and both Silvers while only leaving the two Golds to defend our King. This generally leads to very sharp games where speed calculations in the end game are critical [...]
