The "solution" has you chasing the king around the board to no end, whereas a simple 3-move checkmate is possible.
Ok, I see that there are better moves for gote to avoid the mate in 3 now, but I still see the solution as pretty unsatisfying and perplexing.
It's not a pointless chase. The king is still trapped in his last two ranks by the dragon, and the lance on 78 is about to join the attack. If gote plays Rx95 at the end, L-73+ is mate. Else, if gote moves K-72, Lx75 takes the rook with check, or if drops P*73, Bx73+ is mating.
