Well, to each their own I guess. As far as I'm concerned, rating, all of them: real life, job evaluation, degrees, lishogi, etc. has always been a nuisance, standing between myself and my life. I've never trusted people compliments either. Because of this, I've eventually chosen to be and remain a nobody. And it's not so bad actually. 🙂
I no longer care for my performance in terms of points here but is there a site somewhere where people could play shogi just for the fun of it? No rating involved?
I've always been a very competitive person. I just can't escape the beauty of Shogi, it draws me in. The lomger I play against other people, the more I recognize the depth of this game. I could live until the age of 200 and I wouldn't have seen a sliver of this game. That alone is ... well, pretty awe-inspiring. Like seeing the Pyramids for the first time.
I'm not immortal, I will never see the full scope of this game. But I can contribute to it, by playing, playing, playing it.
EDIT: typo
@ladyontheshogiboard You might not care for rating points, but you still like to see yourself win, right? You care as much about your own performance as anyone who plays for points. If you wouldn't care, you wouldn't have made the effort to sign up.
Your reward for each won game (=challenge) is just a little bit different to most of us. You still gain a record of a win, and your personal memory. But I would bet that most other members care about rating points, just like they care about real colorful strips of paper.
❝but you still like to see yourself win, right?❞
Not really. I generally think that it's not me who won but the opponent that lost. Because of the mistakes they made. The day I'll win because I really played well is not close; it's the horizon. And there is no way we can reach the horizon. 😛
@ladyontheshogiboard 81dojo.com/en features more casual games
there's still a rated mode but since the player pools are bigger it might be a bit better
