When I'm playing computer and place a taken chick on the far rank the opponent resigns, I'm not sure why ?!
I don't know at all why that is but at least the dobutsu computer (on lower levels) resings if you are one move away from being beaten by the computer. So I don't know if that is related to what you are experiencing.
It happens even on level 10 too very strange! I've read that it's not a great move anyway but I see it can be taken, maybe a bug ?
Oh I see I tried it on level 8 too and the computer decided to resing. So yes it is consistent across players.
