Has anybody else noticed the diference in the ratings between normal and correspondence shogi?

I play a lot of correspondence and I am 3-Dan, but I play also normal shogi and I am only 4 or 3-kyu. I believe that I am stronger than that, but not enough to be a 3-Dan (maybe a 1-kyu or 1-Dan), so I wondered if anyone else believes that he has a rank higher than his true strength.

Yes, the rating is different from one type of game to another. I'm pretty sure there is a good reason for that. It might even be explained somewhere here. 🙂

Edit: actually it's logical, live games and correspondence games are totally different games. One is fast, the other is slow.

hard to say.
perhaps it may have something to do with the ones you'r corresponding with? (that is, their level)
maybe without the time pressure, you'r more comfortable with thinking deeper?
there could be other reasons too, I'm sure. but this is just what came to mind

Yeah, I guess that the no time pressure allows me to play better.

However, I've seen people on the first and even on the second dan making beginer's mistakes such as not protect the bishop's head; so that makes me wonder how vast the difference is between the real rating and the correspondence one.

that is a fair question

it may depend on a few things. some players are good with time pressure but don't seem to do all that much better with extra time.
another thing to remember is that everyone makes mistakes.

my correspondence rating is higher than my normal rating also; but I'd imagine that if I had more games with correspondence, it might show a different result
(to what degree, I do not know)

sorry that I can't be more helpful for you. perhaps someone else with more experience on this topic will comment?

You can't post in the forums yet. Play some games!
