I would like to ask

@DogOfTheHouse Personally, I think anybody who wants to play shogi with even a mild seriousness should learn the japanese kanji pieces. It's the standard for shogi, after all. I have taught shogi to several friends in person, and none of them took any more than 5-10 games to learn all of the pieces.

@LizardWizard I am pretty sure I know all pieces, but it is hard for me to see the combinations. What I mean is that I should stop for a second and say "Okay this is the Gold and this is the Silver and there is the Knight", I am just not able to think fast of which type is the piece is. I previously played 51 Games in Nintendo Switch which got Shogi pieces with english lettered below the japanese letters which I guess I wasn't really bad when I played there. Such a piece set should both help me remember and learn the japanese letters and help me see the combinations.

@DogOfTheHouse just play a few games completely without any assistance, and with time you'll get used to it.
btw, what exactly game are you saying? Chu Shogi or regular Shogi?

@DogOfTheHouse You're doing well then, my friend! Whenever you're saying "Okay this is the Gold and this is the Silver and there is the Knight" you are learning the recognition. Just keep that up and in no time, you will be reading them without thinking at all, and you will be able to focus entirely on the game.

@AlexTrick Regular Shogi is enough to heat my mind into thinking, do you think I can play Chu Shogi to even blow my mind? Also, it take from me about 60 seconds to solve the puzzles (for CAPTCHA) each time I reply. Is there any other way to 'block' these puzzles lol

Out of curiosity, is there anyone here who was a chess player before? If so, what was your rating?

@DogOfTheHouse I learned shogi in about 2015, but I played a lot of chess as a kid, and only got back into playing them both late 2019 or so. On lichess I have about 1600 correspondence rating.

I was 2200 in Lichess but I suck now in Lishogi. BTW, I have hard time finding the Shogi ranks (i.e 1 dan). Is there a place in a member's profile where I can see it? If not, then can someone tell me a rating range for each rank if possible?

In my opinion 1400-1500(3kyu)1500-1600(2kyu)1600-1700(1kyu)1700-1800(1dan)1800-1900(2Dan)1900-2000(3dan)
Is appropriate (comparing lishogi rapid to Shogi wars 10min)
