I find byoyomi unbearable because it removes a definitive boundary from the game, which is when the game will terminate. A single game which is drawn out for too long loses its interest, even if it is Shogi. And I know from personal experience that lishogi is full with people who love to let their opponent wait, which is why I try to avoid any game-prolonging measures like Fischer time or byoyomi as much as possible.

Well its a japanese board game were its mostly used in rated and tournament games. So of course its implemented in the site
May problem is at least in go( another japanese board game) you have reserve periods you can use up so here the time mode are longer.
If we could impement the reserve periods we could make shorter periods (30s too 20s for exeample) we could get time management without mre time presure.
Coming from chess increment is only good for rated games. In tournaments with more matches it makes the tournament unprediable longer, even when you have
preround matchmaking
Yeah, it's the traditionally used timing method of Shogi. Love it or hate it, it will always have a place in the game both online and offline.
Shogi over the board isn't generally really played "blitz/bullet" in the same way that chess is. I'm not Japanese, but it feels to me like it goes against the spirit of the game. Not to mention the pieces are pretty tough to move in a hurry..
I wouldn't mind implementation of other timing methods on lishogi, but I don't think byoyomi should ever be removed.
Byoyomi timing method is unlike the increment.For increment games you hurry the current move,but in Byoyomi you have to think for situations happenning many turns after even if that does not matter to what you would do this turn.So think until the clock count 9 is very normal. There are even steps only made for getting more time.And if your opponent is facing time trouble, you can move rapidly to make the game go faster
Actually byoyomi can make very interesting games. A 0/380 setting for example makes a game that is not limited in time and allows 3 minutes for each move, not stackable. That's the kind of byoyomi I like. 😄
